Reanalyzing HSC photometric redshift with RAIL

Use the RAIL package to reanalyze the HSC Y3 photometric redshift, which is recently publicly available. The photometric redshift is one of if not the most important systematics in the HSC Y3 cosmology, so the potential verification/disagreement RAIL will bring with the reanalysis will shed light on this important issue learned in the HSC cosmological analysis.

Contacts: Tianqing Zhang, Alex Malz Time: All day Main communication channel: #desc-pz-rail GitHub repo: https://github.com/LSSTDESC/rail In-person/Virtual/Hybrid: Hybrid Zoom room (if applicable): https://cmu.zoom.us/j/9097859582

Goals and deliverables

  1. Run multiple photo-z estimators on the HSC Y3 photometry with RAIL, and compare the results with the HSC data product.
  2. Produce sample redshift distribution n(z) with options available to RAIL, and compare the results with HSC n(z)
  3. Get people into RAIL.

Resources and skills needed

You may contribute if you have:

  1. RAIL knowledge

You should participate if you have:

  1. passion to learn about RAIL

[Tianqing will be the point of contact for this sprint, but he is on the receiving end of RAIL knowledge, so pros in RAIL are highly welcomed. ]

This is a pretty big task for the sprint day, so naturally will carry on in the RAIL workshop next week, and maybe in the CMU sprint week in October. I will call a good kick-off a success for tomorrow.
