[SPRINT] DESC Project status updates #26

Open rmandelb opened 3 years ago

DESC Project status updates

We'll remind ourselves of the status of research and infrastructure work in DESC, by checking in on the status of DESC Projects following the process outlined here.

Contacts: @rmandelb Day/Time: Wednesday Main communication channel: #desc-leadership (for WG conveners) and otherwise this GitHub issue

Goals and deliverable

Our goals are to (1) check in on the status of approved DESC Projects (update them, add dc2 or thesis label where appropriate) and (2) identify whether any new projects should be declared in areas where there is ongoing work. The deliverable will be an updated version of the DESC Project list.

Resources and skills needed

Working group conveners (@LSSTDESC/wg-conveners ) are asked to participate in this sprint asychronously. Some may opt to check in on the status of DESC Projects at their convenience before sprint week (e.g., on a telecon), in which case their only task might be to indicate that they've completed the update. Those who did not complete the task before sprint week are invited to carry this out as a "service sprint" during which they consult with the leads of approved projects for which they do not know the status.

Detailed description

Instructions are here.

I'll create a checklist in a second comment in this thread, for conveners to indicate when they've completed the task.

@LSSTDESC/wg-conveners : I see a few conveners have started to assign themselves to this issue. Thanks! Please continue to do so.

At the bottom of this comment is the checklist, in which each WG is asked to tick a box to indicate they have finished following the instructions outlined here. As a reminder, our goal is to complete this check-in on the status of DESC Projects by the end of this week, which makes Wednesday (service sprint day) a convenient time to ping project leads, if you haven't already.

Rather unusually, and contrary to typical GitHub etiquette, I am asking that you directly edit this comment if you have some basic information to add beyond your checkmark. For example, if only one convener was involved in the check-ins, it might be useful for you to indicate that, so others know who to contact with questions; or you could edit to note any trends you noticed (e.g., "projects all moving, but slowly, due to Covid" or "numerous projects stalled"). In contrast, if you have a question for which you'd find it helpful to get a prompt answer, please write a new comment so those in the thread get notified.
