Write Sims Recipe for the Twinkles Cookbook #246

Hey @danielsf I made a markdown file for you and @rbiswas4 to write the Sims Recipe in: doc/Cookbook/Sims_Recipe.md At the moment it just has @SimonKrughoff 's minimal notes on generating phoSim data, but now we need to complete the job to enable @TomGlanzman produce images from scratch. It'd be great if you could follow Simon's brief and uncomplicated style - Tom and Tony found it easy to translate what he had written into a workflow for the engine at SLAC. Hopefully Tom will follow along with this issue as you work on it, to let you know if there are things that need more explanation as they come up. Thanks very much!

Hey @danielsf - anything to report on this easy piece of documentation? Thanks!

Sorry. I am completely preoccupied preparing for the LSST@Europe2 meeting in about 1.5 weeks. I don't think I'll be able to do anything Twinkles related until July.

I'm a little confused what needs to be done here. The generatePhoSimInput.py script mentioned in Simon's recipe contains all of the CatSim functionality you should need to generate the PhoSim inputs expected by Twinkles. As long as you are running on a machine that has access to the UW databases (which, I think, we have ensured that SLAC and NERSC are), it should just work. Is there a specific step that people are unclear about? (I could add paragraphs on the general philosophy behind out CatSim works, but I suspect that is not what is wanted in a 'cookbook').

I am not sure that is OK anymore. There were changes to that script before we ran it. And currently I am trying to merge some of that to catsim master. I ran it with a branch, but there are some merge issues now. Once that is done it will be easy to fix the documentation.

Hi @rbiswas4 - just FYI, this open issue is now part of our new "Instance Catalogs at SLAC" Epic, #320. Hope things are going well!
