6 years ago (Documenting a discussion with Charlotte) Charlotte will look into ways for the order of the lead authors to be specified, for a script that eventually will generate a CSV file to export for \author section generation by some external script.
In #70 the supposition is that the system-generated authorship request e-mail messages to the lead authors will contain a link to a page where one or the other lead authors can accept or reject a request, and the Pub Management System will record who is on the author list.
Standard papers will have two groups of authors, with the first group (the Primary authors, which presumably will include the Lead authors) appearing in an order to be determined by the Lead authors, and the second group in alphabetical order.
The Pub Management System should be able to show any DESC member a list of authors for a paper, and whether the paper is currently 'open for sign up' (which on #82 I suggest should be the same as the 2-week collaboration-wide comment period). And it should be able to show the author list in the order that they have (or will) appeared in for the publication.
This suggests that we need to have a way for the lead authors to at least be able to label the primary authors and specify their relative ordering. (This information would be useful for an eventual script that can generate the \author sections of a paper from the Pub Management System and the DESC User database.)
