Alternative keyboards do not come up #334

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect to host with SwiftKey as default input method.
2. Turn phone to switch to landscape mode.
3. Press the keyboard symbol at the lower right to make the KB pop up.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: SwiftKey keyboard. Seen instead: Nothing coming up, symbol
disappearing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Does not work even if
phone is turned back to portrait again.

What version of the product are you using (you can see this by using Menu
-> About in the Host List)?
1.6.2 (r480 2010.02.12)

What type of system are you trying to connect to?
Does not matter, in this case it was a Linux vserver.

If you are able to connect, what is the output of "echo $TERM", "uname -a",
and any other relevant information on the host?
screen, Linux XXXX.de 2.6.18-028stab0068.3-ent #1 SMP Wed Feb 17 11:54:49 MSK
2010 i686 GNU/Linux

Please provide any additional information below.
Problem appears only intermittently ans poorly reproducable. It it appears,
re-selecting the session from the host list does not help. Keyboard stays gone
until relogin. The same applies for Swype.

Btw, sometimes ConnectBot seems to stay in password entry mode after logging
in. That is, a password field is still present at the bottom of the screen, and
overlaps with the keyboard symbol. Need to press back once to get rid of that,
then sometimes the problem mentioned here occurs.

Sounds like the IME is crashing because of a bug in the IME.

Just installed 1.7.0 (2010.09.02) and can confirm that when an alternate
keyboard (I tried 'Full Keyboard') is installed and selected that works over
the default.
