The bud burst data collected by Animal Ecology/NIOO-KNAW are partly described through the standard operating procedure (SOP; stored in a local Teams environment "IvD-NIOO"), partly through a paper (Visser & Holleman 2001), and partly by talking to Marcel.

Takeaway

Metadata are essential in understanding primary data. If metadata are incomplete or non-existing, it's important to get the necessary information from the data owner/steward.
