Turn on wireless when needed

Please describe the change or addition you'd like to see:

I use the Droid power control to shut off wireless access when not in use.
Other software that uses wireless access (I'm thinking of Androsync as an
example; but google maps and turning on GPS is another) will automatically
turn on wireless access when needed. Would it be possible to add that
capability to swiftp?

(Note, it does not need to shut it off when done; I don't think any of the
others do that either)

Do you have any skills or resources that could be used to help with
development of the requested feature?

I wish.
