This is pretty similar to another issue (asking to add a shortcut for catalog
switching, which could be used on the dock) so I'm gonna merge 'em.

I don't think so. Coz I don't want clutter shortcuts in main home.
What I mean is quick switching while drawer is opened

Yes, you can add a custom shortcut, and then add that to the dock for quick
switching.

I suggested a method for doing this in issue 72, "Loop Scrolling for
Drawer/Home Screens," by adding ability to change groups by swiping (gestures.)

I actually was wanting to promote background/homescreen looping, but looping
the app drawer sounds awesome too. The idea to swipe just kind of popped in my
head while typing. Similar to changing months in your calendar, just swipe to
change groups. In vertical scroll app drawer, swipe left/right to change
group. In horizontal-scrolling view of app drawer, swipe up/down to change
group. That sounds even more appealing to me now, because changing which group
is viewed is slightly cumbersome going through menu.

BTW, while I appreciate issue 18's request, I prefer the issue 75 OP request as
a separate item. If you want to implement both at the same time though, I
won't cry about it.

They are kind of close though, Issue 75 was just asking for a shortcut on the
AB buttons. If a custom shortcut was made to allow quick switching between
catalogs, it could easily be put in one of the AB's.

They are almost the same thing, only one allows for a little more flexibility
(While yes, this one is open to ideas, it asks for AB button switching).

I don't doubt it from your perspective.

Nothing wrong with that, but I think the two requests are different from the
requestors' perspectives.

In issue 18, the request is specifically, "Add your new "app group" to main
screens with custom icon." This is a valid and desirable request.

In issue 75 , the request is for "add quick switching for app catalog" in the
title, but they detailed "add button for quick switching between catalog," and
their suggestion is, "maybe on left/rights acess button." I believe they are
mainly just wanting, as I do, a faster way of switching groups when viewing the
apps filtered into groups. This could be done in other ways, without adding a
button. Having a faster method to change groups without taking up your AB
buttons would be preferred. I suggested using swiping/gestures.

(crap I'm having a hard time editing my comments while watching the US Open.)

Yep, I understand what you're saying (which is why I said this one is open to
ideas ;))

I'll un-merge this issue but I will be clarifying it to something more like
"Ideas on how to implement faster catalog switching"

Might help if I actually changed the name like I said I would

In comment 4, by issue 72, I actually meant issue 27, "Sort the Appdrawer."
Funny that I typoed the numbers then went and copied the title from the other
thread I also happened to post in. Got totally confused where I posted what. :)

I've since seen swiping suggested to speed the change of catalog in another
thread, issue 96. I think this would be a popular feature. 8)

Also thanks, JAguirre1231

Also as I suggested under issue 96 (forgot I was logged in with alt email when
I posted there),

Another option is to pinch for Category selection, as is done for home screen
selection. Rather than thumbnails preview, a simple list of categories could
be offered to choose from.

There's a little problem with the currently suggested method:
The catalogs act like a "filter" for the app drawer adapter.
Pinching to show the different catalogs could not work cause there's only 1
applications adapter, so we can't show more than 1 at a time.
Swiping could be possible, but we couldn't show any transition like desktop or
the horizontal app drawer cause of the same 1 adapter issue.

There could be different approaches to something like what you want:
1.-Completely redo the applications/catalogs adapter so we can make different
instances of it.
2.-Place buttons at the top of the app drawer, like livehome/gde/etc to fast
change between groups.
3.-Suggestions?
4.-Profit.

I'd be okay without pinch-zoom if I could have gestures/swiping. Pinch zoom
actually takes more effort anyhow, and I think I'd prefer being able to swipe
with my thumb. I use Opera browser cuz I'm all for ease of use. Either that
or I'm lazy.. ahem, I mean I like efficiency.

Even if transitions (like animations?) aren't possible, would a little popup
notification be possible? When the page is changed, the category names could
pop up in those little notification bubbles I see often.

Buttons at top are cool too, but again, gestures just seems more natural to me.

I think this would be really great. As you said there is a lot of possible way
to do it and even if I prefer the swiping way, the other ways seem great too.

Maybe, you can put the title of the current group at the top.

I hope this amelioration will be included soon

Thanks for your work

I think that the best way is with gestures, and for the transition effect... I
think that a workaround would be to display the name of the group while
swiping. I mean, when you swipe to change the catalog, the app drawer will move
with the gesture, and the name of the group will come with it, and once you
quit the finger of the screen, the new apps will appear with some kind of
zoom/dim effect (obviously configurable).

Also will be great to have tabs like the ones in the "news and weather widget",
which you can swipe in the list to browse the different catalogs
