I don't see a problem, it's like 5mins of work, just upgrade current WN6
formula to WN7 and that's it...

Please could you told me where I can found (file name) current WN6 formula to
update it ?
Many thanks

You can't do it paolo, it has to be updated on XVM server by XVM devs, for them
it's surely 5 min of code changing then probably few days to execute and
recalculate their whole database...

So, I will wait for further good notices :)

Issue 571 has been merged into this issue.
Original comment by edgar.fo...@gmail.com
on 8 Nov 2013 at 4:24
Issue 571 was not so much about wn7/wn8, as about replacing the WG rating in
7v7 with _any_ established stat, even wn6 would do for starters.
Original comment by kiril...@gmail.com
on 10 Nov 2013 at 8:04
In order to do this, WN7 and/or WN8 need to be implemented server-side first.
But at the moment, there are problems with stats on WG servers so I guess this
issue has a low priority.
Original comment by edgar.fo...@gmail.com

Then I would suggest to reopen Issue 571.

what about macros and XVM scale?
Original comment by m.schedr...@gmail.com

In the WN8 calculation, does it only use the Random Battles stats? If not, it
needs to be changed so that 7/42 battles are not included in the totals.

Just thought I'd add something. The current XVM Configuration Editor only
allows WN* scores up to 3000. I assume that can be increased by editing the
configuration file directly, but it needs to be increased in the editor, if
that hasn't been said already.
Original comment by bjsh...@gmail.com

it is nice we are getting rid of the obsolete WN6... but... what was not stated
properly is, how do we get to know the global values have changed from WN6 to
WN8? and does it mean, the macros {wn} and {xwn} will be kept, just the value
it displays wont be WN6 but WN8? aaaand, do we get new macros for vehicle WN8,
as if you are calculating WN8, you definitely have WN8 for each vehicle player
has...
thx, keep up good work :)

Just give the developers time to at least release the next full version of XVM.
I'm sure most if not all of your questions will be answered in the release
notes.

Since,

if XVM is using wn8 then where can i find it. XVM Config still using WN6.
anyone knows where to get XVM config with wn8?
Thanks.
Original comment by Spicy...@gmail.com

#28 #25 #26
From what I understand the config doesn't have macros for every WN version,
just a generic WN that will return whatever data XVM servers have, and since
#12, the servers only calculate WN8. (it would be a waste of resources to keep
outdated versions, and quite expensive)
My stats updated like two weeks ago and took a huge change, so I can confirm
the update to WN8.
Original comment by Vodhr.Ni...@gmail.com
on 23 Dec 2013 at 1:27
5.0.2test1 version still seems to use WN6... at least so far, on the NA server.
Maybe we have to wait for a DB update sometime next week.
Original comment by rodrigoq...@gmail.com
on 23 Dec 2013 at 8:02
As far as I know, this rating is calculated on the server and stored into the
DB as batsvr said. However, the macro isn't implemented yet in XVM so we can't
retrieve it.
You guys have to wait for the final implementation.
"When? Soon." :)

WN8 is now implemented since r3041.
Original comment by edgar.fo...@gmail.com
on 29 Dec 2013 at 11:56
Regarding your chat under r3041:
You are afraid of confusing players, but actually many stats leading sites
(WoTLabs/Noobmeter) have already replaced the default WN formula with WN8. I
guess most of people who care about rating use the stats sites, so at the
moment they are rather going to be confused by XVM that left old WN6.
On your place I'd change the default {{wn}} macro with WN8 since it looks like
it's gonna be a future. If you really want to keep the old WN - the {{wn6}}
option should be fine.
Besides that WN8 was made to calculate the player rate more accurate, so it
should be treated as an upgrade and not something that's gonna destroy players
life and introduce the chaos ;)
Original comment by nieznaj...@gmail.com
on 31 Dec 2013 at 3:45
Currently, Noobmeter is still showing WN7 (to avoid confusion too, like I
suggested) but I agree with you: {{wn6}} should return WN6 and {{wn}} return
WN8.
You know, I'm the developer of a little tool on the EU cluster called XVM
Updater, it installs everything automatically and you can select what rating
you want to use in a few clicks.
Sometimes, people don't understand why their rating changed, why it isn't
updating or what is the difference between ER and WN. Not everyone is aware of
these ratings, how they work, etc. So, do you imagine if we force these people
to use WN8, automatically, without changing their configuration?
In my opinion, we must take care of that and provide a smooth transition, at
least for a few months.
Original comment by edgar.fo...@gmail.com
on 31 Dec 2013 at 11:34
I agree. That makes a lot of sense.
Original comment by bjsh...@gmail.com
on 1 Jan 2014 at 1:37
You are right about Noobmeter, they use both values - my bad.
What kind of transition are you thinking about? To provide {{wn8}} for now and
move it to {{wn}} in some time?
Original comment by nieznaj...@gmail.com
on 1 Jan 2014 at 10:20
just make the {{wn}} macro wn8 , and if its not to expensive allow for {{wn7}}
and maybe {{wn6}}
Original comment by AnthonyV...@gmail.com
on 1 Jan 2014 at 10:56
We were discussing about 3 solutions on r3041:
1. remove {{wn}} (and use {{wn6}} and {{wn8}})
2. leave {{wn}} and return WN6 (and add {{wn8}})
3. leave {{wn}} and return WN8 (and add {{wn6}})
I think the third one is the best, but we need users' opinion.
Original comment by edgar.fo...@gmail.com
on 1 Jan 2014 at 12:12
If you can count my voice i vote for 3rd option ;)
It's gonna be compatible with present users' configs and allow other people to
continue using WN6 if they really want to.
Looks like answer #39 voted the same ;)
Original comment by nieznaj...@gmail.com
on 1 Jan 2014 at 4:46
Yes, i agree #3. This way users have no change to configs unless they want the
outdated wn6
Original comment by AnthonyV...@gmail.com
on 1 Jan 2014 at 6:29
[deleted comment]
I also agree with option 3. Set the new ratings as standard for everyone new
joining the statistics djungle. But something to consider also is that the ones
that dont have learned that wn8 have new color scales and keeps wn6 settings
for colors will see incorrect colors on players. Maybe there is some good way
to avoid that?
Original comment by kim.kall...@gmail.com
on 1 Jan 2014 at 10:13
That's a good point. Hmm... maybe {{wn8}} should be the one for now, and a
message should show in-game saying "On release of 9.0, {{wn}} will return WN8
instead of WN6, so be ready to update your config file" or something.
Original comment by bjsh...@gmail.com
on 2 Jan 2014 at 12:56
[deleted comment]
Actually, how about having three macros kept: {{wn}}, {{wn6}}, {{wn8}}?
That way, it will be unambiguous. {{wn6}} will return WN6, {{wn8}} will return
WN8 and {{wn}} will return WN6 for a while (showing the warning message),
before eventually updating to WN8 (as of the 9.0 update).
Original comment by bjsh...@gmail.com
on 2 Jan 2014 at 1:02
Everyone can put on their big boy pants and use wn8 by default with wn macro,
if they want wn6 they can revert to it with wn6 macro. colors are trivial
Original comment by AnthonyV...@gmail.com
on 2 Jan 2014 at 3:44
When a release version of XVM comes out with WN8, the devs will add a WN8
colours section to the config editor, right?
