confReader is painfully slow #23

Need to find strategies to speed it up. It takes 2 minutes to read a $24^3\times8$ lattice, which is entirely unacceptable.

i managed to speed this up by about a factor 6. i'm not sure yet how to improve further 3a7ca9a
