Hit the key bound to escape, a prompt asking for confirmation will come up:
At this point, hitting cancel will go back to the editor and remove the modal, but open hitting save the note does not show up in the notes list. "Logging" in and out did not resurface the ghosted notes.
Tested on the most recent version of Google Chrome. Thankfully, I didn't write down too much in the note that got deleted.

Create a new note
Write some content or a title
