I see that KouChat tries to connect using a network interface called "Broadcom
NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller - SecuRemote Miniport". The "SecuRemote
Miniport"
part of the name makes me think it's some kind of virtual interface.

Could you follow the DebugWithJConsole guide in the wiki, and attach the output
(as
text) of current network, operating system network, usable networks, and all
networks?

Then I will see if I can find out why a connection was not made with the actual
physical network interface.

Added the Jconsole debugging as requested.
Good luck.

Thanks!

As far as I can see, the correct network interface was chosen. There are no
other
candidates in the list of "all networks".

Is the "Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller - SecuRemote Miniport" the
network interface you use? Or is that list incomplete?

Have you tried deactivating any firewall temporarily just to test if that helps?

That is the complete list. The Broadcom is the interface I use.

The wireless is disabled once you connect to the LAN.
I have a firewall on the computer and the firewall from IP department doesn't
affect
the LAN, it'll only stop for internet use. And even if the firewall on the
computer
is disabled, it has the same effect (program sticks in the same place).

Interestingly it works on another desktop in the office and a coworkers laptop
:S

This is strange. Even if the wrong interface was chosen, the operating system
should
have returned something.

I'm going to do some testes on a laptop I have with XP to see how it behaves.

I cannot reproduce the behavior you are experiencing. With or without the
firewall
enabled. The only time the operating system didn't give me any response was
when the
cable was unplugged and the wireless was off.

Since you are not getting any errors from KouChat, I don't know if there is
anything
more I can do. My guess would be that there are some issues between java and
the
network configuration on your computer.

Please let me know if you find out more.

this.
Thanks for everything and good luck.
