8 months ago this probably wont get implemented either because its hard or because its too non-android-y, so here's an alternative: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pub.hanks.appfolderwidget - works in any launcher and even things that are not supposed to be launchers. i have it as an app bar in my Smartspacer's extended smartspace widget feed.
