[FEATURE] Changing the icons of webapps #4290

Open DominikM60 opened 6 months ago

DominikM60 commented 6 months ago

Describe the feature

Possibility to change the webapp icon to anything else

Why would it be useful to add?

It was available back in the day with older versions, for example the one from Google Play repository

Did the feature exist in Lawnchair v2? (Play Store version)

Yes

Example(s)

No need for a picture, you long press on a webapp shortcut and it shows the option to customise icon just like it does for the normal apps

Additional context

No response

Are you talking about something like #3284 or a different feature?

DominikM60 commented 6 months ago

I believe it is a bit different thing On the older version webapps got the Customize button where I could change the icon and on the newer versions this option is missing. signal-2024-04-17-150121_002 signal-2024-04-17-150201_002

Have you tried Lawnchair 14 beta 2? Everything works for me when it comes to the icon that I added from Google Chrome using the "Add to Home screen" feature.

But if I also add a shortcut from an app (for example, a shortcut to a table from Google Sheet), then the icon can't be changed. However, this is a different issue (#4188).

I don't have and don't want to have Google Chrome but I have tried this on the Firefox, Brave and Vanadium (GrapheneOS default browser based on chromium) and the effect was the same. I am on the 14 beta 2 so I have no clue why Adding to home screen (same approach as you do) works for you but does not for me :c

DominikM60 commented 4 months ago

By the way, I gave a shot to shortcuts created by this app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rk.android.app.shortcutmaker&gl=US) as well and what is interesting is that even when I set up a correct icon in the create a shortcut settings the lawnchair simply chooses to ignore this setting. Therefore the workaround known from https://github.com/LawnchairLauncher/lawnchair/issues/4188 does not work either :c

just figured out the same thing that @x9136 said above, that if you add the PWA from Chrome instead of Firefox or seemingly any other browser it works just fine. So this feature could have the title clarified to "Changing the icons of webapps added through non-Chrome browsers" or something...
