I've had similar this morning, on the same version.
The "ghost" icon can be removed by restarting Lawnchair from the menu.
I can't replicate this on my device I've tried about 20 times. I'm running Lawnchair v14.0.0-beta2.
Could you possibly screen record it happening? Maybe there's a specific movement that triggers the bug? How often would you say it does this? 50% of the time, 10% of the time?

I've just tried, and I can't make it happen again.
Sorry :)
I am experiencing the same bug and it is reproducible for me. It doesn't matter how I move the app to the homescreen, whenever I want to directly move it into a folder a second app icon gets created on the first page. it's always on the top left corner, even overlaying existing widgets.
When I click undo on the appearing toast notification, the additional icon mostly gets removed while the correct one stays in the folder. However, this process doesn't work all the time.
@major-mayer is this somewhat similar to what's seen in the screen recording in #4465?
The positioning of the duplicated app icon, yes. But i don't experience the bug when I want to open and close apps, just when I try to add apps to folder. I will try to record my screen...

I tried for a bit but i can't seem to reproduce the bug that you're experiencing.

So weird... Now that I try it again, I also can't reproduce it anymore, while a few hours ago it was still there. I think there is definitely something wrong, because I didn't do any update or so, but I can't help debugging it right now. I will report if I experience the bug again.
Describe the bug
When I try to move an app from the app drawer to a home screen folder in the dock, the icon doubles and places itself on the homescreen in a casual place. So at the end I have 2 apps: one on the dock folder, and one in the homescreen
Steps to reproduce
