[DISCUSSION] Themed Placeholder Icons for Apps without Icons #877

About this discussion

Hi, just wondering if this is possible, but as we know, Android uses a placeholder icon which is the Android head with colored backgrounds (blue/teal in older Android versions) for apps that don't have an icon set. I wonder if we can make Lawnicons apply a themed placeholder icon to these iconless apps. The icon can be an Android head drawn in the style of the current Lawnicons lines theme.

This can be useful if, for example, we rooted our device using Magisk and used the "Hide the Magisk App" feature which replaces the vanilla Magisk app with a duplicate Magisk app with a randomly generated package name, which doesn't have an icon.

Thanks for the feedback in advance!

The pixel launcher as a force themed icons option something like that would be appreciated and would fix this issue

An optional toggle to enable "Forced Themed icons"

It could use the app Icon in monochrome being multiplied by the Theme color

Is this possible without root?
