About this discussion

Word type icons should be allowed with thinner strokes or wider content area, for example the following icon agoda It is impossible to draw this icon under existing guidelines. agoda

unless you redesign the icon, like this ebay

but I don't think this is a good idea, because it is totally different from the original icon design, just to follow the strict guidelines.

If the app has a website, you can check what favicon it uses and use that as the new icon. Sure it's not ideal, but at least its still part of brand in some way. Do you have anymore examples that I could look at and maybe change the guidelines

for example, booking, grab, uber, etc. all icons like that have the same problem... using favicon is a good idea. we either respect the original design or lose the consistencies, it is a dilemma...

Many icons do not use the original design due to the guidelines. For example one recent icon someone made was originally a man holding a dumbell but it was using a stroke of 6px width. We changed it to a dumbell to just a dumbell. Not all icons can look the same unfortunately... I'll see if I can do something about it

That was me in #852 . An other example I came across was BeReal. were I designed a B. icon instead.

If you make such a rule only for word type icons, the consistency of Lawnicons would break, so you would have to change the current style a lot. As a result, you would have a new style, based on which you can already make a different icon pack.

Currently, word type icons that have more than 3 characters per line look too small relative to the rest of the icons. They noticeably worsen consistency in this regard. Therefore, instead of word type icons, I would prefer to come up with a suitable replacement without letters or make no more than 2-3 letters per line and no more than 2 lines. Even though it would be a bit inconvenient for people who use icons without labels.

So far, there are few word type icons that turned out to be too small, so with this change, you can think for a long time to find an even better option.
