Describe the bug Game black screens suddenly but audio continues

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior: Walk to this location then head north: Location

Screen changes to a scrambled motionless black screen and I see this in the exe events:

Screenshots Open GL out of memory

The openGL error appars to be the issue

Additional context This is the first time I have been in this map area, it also happens when I get close to the east of fort moonmoth

Ok I think I have nailed this down by considering and testing 2 points.

1) Don't choose above 8x anti aliasing in the openmw launcher 2) Don't enable interior shadows in the openmw launcher

Toggling these setting enables me to either reproduce or bypass the crash when loading from a save, just outside the crash event area.

It appears that the problem may be related to a current issue with the latest AMD drivers (I am running latest drivers on Powercolor 6700XT red devil) https://www.reddit.com/r/OpenMW/comments/1bc7uy7/openmw_causes_driver_timeout_and_crashes_on_amd/

I'm having the same problem, happens shortly after using divine intervention and standing around Moonmoth.

The anti aliasing and interior lighting changes seems to lessen the issue, but not solve it for me.

One suggestion I saw was to roll back AMD driver (assuming you are using AMD GPU), the suggestion was to grab something from November 23.

dumbmud commented 5 months ago

That worked for me, I used the drivers from November 2nd and it solved the issue immediately, I was able to turn on the shadows and stuff too. Tested by levitating around the area and it ran great.

Ok, lets try to pin this down....

My results with WIN 10 AMD drivers:

Adrenalin 24.2.1 (WHQL 2/26/2024 latest: crash Adrenalin 24.1.1 (WHQL 1/23/2024 latest-1: crash Adrenalin 23.12.1 (WHQL 12/5/2023 latest-2: stable for me

Adrenalin 23.11.1 (WHQL 11/2/2023 latest-3: stable for you, are you running WIN10?

How about you play on with that driver and I will play on with this, update any further issues here?

Alternatively, you can test the other driver releases and post here to see if we have any corresponding results.

At this point its clear the issue resides with AMD drivers as opposed to the modlist or openmw in general, however, as many users of this modlist will be running latest AMD and presumably will therefore encounter this issue, I feel its worth keeping the ticket open until a resolution presents itself.

I've been playing with 23.11.1 the past few days and I haven't had any issues whatsoever since.

I am on Windows 10. Before I changed my drivers, I also had crashes in totally vanilla morrowind when stepping off the boat, which has also been solved.

I saw other people in forums complaining about having similar issues in different games, so seems AMD just has bad drivers currently and that's it.
