If something is not a phoneme of English, the only phoneme that will ‘count’ is a lateral fricative. If a child makes a phoneme that is not a phoneme of English or a lateral fricative, then this will be a zero. This will increase inter-transcriber reliability. For the lateralized /s/ or /S/, we treat this purely as a place error and correct for manner and voicing.
