Scenario 1

In a battle, you blow up all of your ships to raid, but destroy the city to Ransack the Court to secure Mass Uprising. A ships is placed in the battling system. Is this ship considered an attacking ship for the purpose of raid?

Scenario 2

You have the Sycophant. You attack a Lord and trigger the Feudal Law. Noticing, the Feudal Law outrage triggers at the Choose Defender step, you place 2 ships into the battle system. This is before the Collect Dice step. Are the 2 ships attacking ships and do you collect dice for them?

"Attacking ships" Question

What is the formal definition of "attacking ships" at which timing do we choose them. This timing is important because we know

  1. You can choose a battle system WITHOUT loyal ships if you can battle with some ships there. (e.g. Admiral / Judge's Chosen can battle without their Loyal ships). So step 1 is technically incorrect.
  2. Certain ships cannot be attacking ships against certain targets (Judge's ships can't attack the Judge)
  3. 🆕 It is now possible to choose SOME but not ALL imperial ships in a system to battle the Empire alone.

After some discussion, we think the "cleanest" mental model: (Not advocating for errataing it)

  1. Choose Battle System: Choose 1 system that has any ships that you can battle with. You can battle with your Loyal ships. This is the battle system.
  2. Choose Defender: Choose 1 target with pieces in the battle system that can be battled.
  3. Choose attacking ships: All the Loyal ships are attacking ships. If you can Command the Imperial Fleet, you may choose Imperial ships as attacking ships. If you can Command the Imperial Fleet and chose the Empire as the defender, you may choose some but not all Imperial ships as attacking ships. If you are the Judge's Chosen and not battling the Judge, you may choose Judge's ships as attacking ships. Those ships belonging to the defender that are not attacking ships are defending ships.
  4. Collect Dice: For each attacking ship, you may collect...

A related problem is, some Loyal pieces cannot be battled (e.g. Pilgrims, Witness). Thus a player shouldn't be able to battle in a system where the defender only has those tokens.
