Bricking Ledger Stax

Apologies in advance for the vague bug report, I have only replicated this twice, if nobody else can I'm happy to try and narrow it down further / test with different devices / etc. in case it's actually a hardware issue with my specific Ledger / etc.

I have a new Ledger Stax which I was using to set up a NEAR wallet (using mynearwallet)

Twice, using the NEAR app the Ledger got bricked and factory-reset itself.

The observable events were:

• I had the NEAR app open on my Ledger
• I had the wallet app open in my browser
• My Ledger was unlocked, connected and the UI was showing me my wallet
• The Ledger locked itself (timeout as expected)
• I took an action in the UI that would create a transaction and prompt the connected Ledger for a signature
• The Ledger went from a locked state to showing the PIN entry UI

At this point, the UI on the Ledger was unresponsive, and after a minute or so the Ledger reset itself back to the setup screen (factory reset)

Relevant versions:

• Ledger Stax OS version 1.5.0
• NEAR Ledger App 2.2.0
• Chrome Version 129.0.6668.100 (Official Build) (arm64)
• MacOS Sequoia 15.0.1 (MacBook Pro M3 Max)

Ledger Live was also installed and running at the time (I think)

Disclaimers:

• I haven't tried on more than one Ledger Stax, so I can't be sure this isn't a hardware fault
• I also haven't done a lot of other transactions yet with that Ledger so I can't be absolutely positive that it's specific to the NEAR app and not a Ledger bug... but I have done some with both Ethereum and Solana apps, and the Ledger has only bricked itself twice, both times with the NEAR app open and when I'm trying to sign a NEAR transaction so I think it's related

Thank you for reporting it. I don't have the device to test it on. I will forward it to the Ledger team, so maybe they can help us here. There are 4 layers where it may break in my opinion: Ledger hardware, Ledger OS, Ledger Rust SDK, NEAR app.
