"Disk Video" was implemented to render arbitrarily large images from a parameter set in a non-interactive manner. Replace "disk video" with a console-based offline rendering utility that does the same thing.
This probably isn't feasible until the UI and rendering code is more cleanly separated.
Features:
By default, it doesn't print anything, but command-line switches enable increasing verbosity for very long renderings.
Ctrl+C (SIGINT on unix) interrupts the rendering, but saves the state in the image file for later resuming.
