old cmap allows for specification of "landmark" features that are given preference for display at zoom levels where many features will be suppressed due to space constraint. We are considering something similar, but possibly extending so that instead of a simple boolean (is or is not landmark) one could specify an order of priorities for display.
NB: we might want to consider whether we would allow end-users to redefine this, e.g. if they have
a set of features that are of special interest in some research context and want to have these treated as the landmarks in terms of their interaction with the tool
