Would a generic flash card icon work? I already have some in gnome-*/*/devices/
If
they fit the application's intended usage (and the app doesn't use hardcoded
icons),
then that would make it easy and quick to add an icon for Mnemosyne.

A generic icon would work fine, however, I did not see any in
gnome-*/*/devices/.
I think maybe you are thinking of this:

but by flash card, I mean this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flashcard.

Oh wow, yes. My mistake. I thought it was an application for managing flash
memory
cards, not actual flash cards for learning.
I guess I'll have to take a look around and see if I can come up with a
suitable icon
metaphor for the application.. Perhaps I can get some ideas from similar apps.
I'll
leave this open until I come up with something.

Here's one idea for a metaphor:
It seems like some flash card applications use some form of stack of cards as
their
icon. For example:
http://sourceforge.net/dbimage.php?id=152532 ("Genius", the icon is in the title
bar--only shot I could find)
http://granule.sourceforge.net/granule-big.png ("Granule")
Granted, granule's icon is pretty ugly, but perhaps this metaphor is
simple/clean
enough to work. Just an idea!
