This PR implements the beginnings of a fix for Issue # 20.

I made small commits to ease code review. Feel free to rebase and squash as you see fit.

Does the app still work as it should with this adjustments?

Yes. I wouldn't push anything that to my knowledge was broken! Of course, let me know if you see anything unusual.

@Letme This PR introduced a bug. PR #24 fixes that bug.
