The Date field is defined in the screen and

entered the following values

23-09-2012 
saved as 
Mar  4, 0029

2012-09-23 
saved as 
Sep 23, 2012

Activeweb 1.3 and OS Windows 7

How to define/config the default input date field format ?

not sure this is a framework bug, please see this:
http://freemarker.sourceforge.net/docs/ref_builtins_date.html
and this:
http://code.google.com/p/activeweb/wiki/Views#FreeMarker_configuration

You can use the latter to configure FreeMarker any way you need
