Support for authentication with OpenID #36

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

OpenID is quickly gaining momentum. It's already supported in JA-SIG CAS,
and I think it's vital for RubyCAS to have support for it ASAP.

Hi I need openId stuff in my project. Can you say me if ruby-openid library
compatible with rubycas-server. Have you got some issues about it ?

Thanks.

Tack Sebastien

Not yet, but OpenID is planned for the next major release (0.7.0)

I had another look at this today, and unfortunately it's going to be a bit more
complicated. To authenticate against OpenID the user enters a URL, but CAS
currently
requires a username and password to be entered. Modifying the login page based
on the
underlying authenticator is something that can be done, but it will make things
a lot
more complicated. I don't want to hold up the RubyCAS-Server 0.7.0 release for
this,
so I'm going to have to push this back to a later milestone.

I actually modified masquerade to work with RubyCAS, but it's a separate rails
app that you have to run. If people
are interested, I can put the code up here. The benefit to us is we can have
our users login to RubyCAS then be
transferred to Highrise via OpenID
xxxx.highrisehq.com/login?openid_url=blahblahblah.com

I'm currently working to setup a modified masquerade as a central
authentication
point for a bunch of internal applications. At least one of those supports CAS
but
not openid, so if you have a modified version of masquerade with CAS support
and are
willing to share the code, it would be wonderful!

+1 for this. Are there any plans to support this in the near-term?

Normally I would be the person ranting about "+1 Me too" comments ... but .. A
year of "on hold" changes you ;)

+1 Me too! Wow Its harder than I thought to post a "me too" ;)

There's already 1.0.0, so what's the status of this?

It's probably not gonna happen unless someone else takes it on. I've got too
many things on my hands right now, and the organization sponsoring RubyCAS
maintenance currently has no need for OpenID.

Re: "+1", i think the trick it to "star" the issue.
