The cause is when a web site broadcasts a "fake" link to a file. You click on
the link and a script, behind the scenes, generates the appropriate HTTP
headers for the file you can and sends said file back to the user. I guess
technically the frame load is being interrupted. I will have to investigate
further, but there does not appear to be any error or problem. If I can't find
anything I've done wrong or could do better, I will file a bug report on it.

Actually, I just tried downloading a worksheet on sage 4.7.1, 4.7.1 with my
current flask notebook, demo.sagenb.org, and test.sagenb.org (on safari 5.1 on
osx 10.6.8). In all cases, I got a file, even though sometimes it displayed an
error.
So the question is: did you get a file in your Downloads folder, even if there
was an error?

Huh, funny. I have the same Safari on the same Mac version, but nothing. Not
even a hidden file - I checked with ls -a!
Maybe flask.sagenb.org has an older codebase that causes this problem? I am
pretty sure that older Sages also have this problem, but I unfortunately don't
have time to try a lot of different ones right now :(

It looks like Safari 5.1.1 was released today. kcrisman: does 5.1.1 have the
same problem for you?

I tried it on demo.sagenb.org, same problem. No error message. Also, the File
-> Print option does not work (though the "Print" button with the icon does
work).
I have not yet had the chance to try 5.1.1. It and the security update
requires a restart. I'll try this later.

Update - at least one user can't use FF because Jmol doesn't work there.

Safari 5.1.1 does not work as well, still demo.sagenb.org.
Jason, is it possible there is some cookie or something else on our system that
could make things behave differently from yours? Otherwise it would seem we
have identical setups... ?

On sagenb.org, Safari 5.1.1 works well for me, in that there is no longer any
error, it just saves. On demo.sagenb.org, I get the activity window error, but
a file does show up in my downloads window anyway. Weird.

I see that Safari 5.1.2 is released now, and the changes listed include "Allow
PDFs to be displayed within web content", which I think may have been the root
of the problem here.
Maybe the difference is that I don't have Safari display things inline; I
always have Safari download things.

? What would pdfs have to do with it?
Can I test this change of yours? Is it the preference "Open 'safe' files after
downloading"?
Original comment by kcris...@gmail.com

Apparently it wasn't that preference, because that didn't work, even after
restarting Safari.

The bug posted above was about displaying pdf files, but the error message was
the same. It looks like Safari 5.1.2 may have fixed the bug about displaying
pdf files, which I hope might have fixed the underlying issue we were having.
Can you try upgrading to Safari 5.1.2 and see if that fixes the problem?

I was doing that while you made this comment :)
But it doesn't seem to have fixed anything.

I also can't figure out your preference that you have that works for you.
I also don't get any error message, unlike your cases in the past. Nothing in
the activity window, nothing in Downloads. Weird.
