Server protocol change #38

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Launch web lobby

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Connect to spring servers.
No connection at all.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest. OpenSUSE 13.2 x64

Please provide any additional information below.
As you sure know,
"Zero-K has moved into a new server software because old one (UberServer) could
not handle large number of players in tests.

This will allow faster development of Zero-K lobby, proper matchmaking etc, but
unfortunately breaks compatibility with existing non Zero-K lobby clients, so
please use Zero-K lobby for now.

Because it's a full rewrite of lobby server with changes done to springie
autohosts, zero-k lobby and website/nightwatch, do expect some quirks. Bug
reports are very much welcome at"

So WebLobby users can't play .... :(

All development has moved to github so you should open issues at
https://github.com/springweblobby/swl-website/issues instead.

I actually am working on implementing the new protocol support for reactswl,
but there's no support for multiplayer battles yet. If you start weblobby with
-url http://weblobby.springrts.com/reactjs/index.html you can connect to zk
server and chat, but it's an early prototype and all that.

> Connect to spring servers.
> No connection at all.
When you say "spring servers" are you talking about zk lobby server?
lobby.springrts.com should still work just fine.

Hi there

Well, I was using last month lobby.zero-k.info server, but two days ago is
"connecting" forever. On the other hand, "lobby.springrts.com" shows
"Could not connect to lobby server: resolve: Host not found
(authoritative)", so the result is can't connect anyway. :(

That's really odd, there must be something wrong with your DNS,
lobby.springrts.com definitely resolves for me. Try using 78.46.100.157 as the
server.

No way. I can browse lobby.springrts.com without problems with any
webbrowser, so my PC can reach that server. However, Spring Web Lobby can't
connect to lobby server:resolve: host not found (authoritative)

:?

I don't undertstand this. As I said, I can access and ping to
lobby.springrts.com. However, it fails on launching WebLobby. But if I put
the IP that you gave me, it works!!!! Is a non sense. It's more: NOTA have
no problems in connecting without changing servers (I can see even ZeroK
battle rooms). So, I can't guess what's the problem, but is no related to
my internet connection.

THANK YOU!

One theory is that swl tries to resolve over UDP and doesn't fall back to TCP
and UDP resolving somehow fails on your machine. Or perhaps the bundled
Boost.Asio doesn't play well with your OS.

But I can't understand why SUDDENLY it stop working and at the same time
there was a protocol change.
In fact, with that IP, I only can see ONE ROOM of ZeroK in WebLobby and
NOTA. That's not normal.

That part is actually normal since ZK moved to the new server together with
springies. The lone room is a server that banana hosts on his VPS so that
people can still play ZK on the old server.

I understand. However, result is that WebLobby or NOTA users can't play
ZeroK multiplayer cause there is only one room to play Zerok!!!
That's the fact.
