Regarding point 2:

We have 4 possible hypotheses about landmarks and their relationship with each other:

1. Independent, only local matters for learning new items.

2. Independent, influence on new learning is modulated by distance

3. Integrated schema, influence on new learning is not modulated by distance

4. Integrated schema, influence on new learning is modulated by distance (this is least likely)

We discussed how our results are most compatible with (1). However, we should mention in the discussion that had we found opposite results, they would've been compatible with (2) and (3).

Discussed how could one differentiate (2) and (3) in a paradigm such as ours.

What makes a schema schema?

• Levan: some sort of all-or-none phenomenon a la Horner?
• Rik: using them and their relation with each other to encode new items, so using them as a coordinate space instead of the boundaries of the environment.
• Levan: in generalisation paradigms. Learn a schema (landmarks) in one situation, then in a new situation expose only to part of the landmarks and see if the rest of the schema gets re-instated.
