Real-time forecasts with IFS 0.25° open-data #1

Hi, ECMWF made 0.25° IFS forecasts available as open-data: https://data.ecmwf.int/forecasts/. I was considering to run graph cast with it. Your work seems to be a great starting point. Would it be possible to adapt your routines to work with the 0.25° GRIB files from IFS open-data? Afterwards I might integrate the model result into the Open-Meteo API for easy comparison with other weather models. What do you think?

Hey @patrick-zippenfenig , That was something I was wondering too and would love to have that feature. But it seems like the GraphCast implementation is dependent on the ECMWF AI-models-graphcast package (which doesn't work with opendata directly, maybe needs some tweaking to the initial conditions). I'd love to hear if you've made any progress to have it working with IFS

I got it to work at some point. Preparing data was a challenge, because there was no exact fit for it. However, I decided to scrap the project because GFS GraphCast is now available as open-data from NOAA with retrained weights using GFF. AIFS from ECMWF is open-data as well. There are now also start-ups that continue developing further ML weather forecast models. E.g. silurian.ai or sorcerer.earth
