Configuration wizard looping then crashes #743

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

Please remember to attach a log!
Bugs without a log will be closed and set to invalid!

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Upload project-valerie_rev1280_mips32el_oe20.ipk /tmp
2. Install ipk
3. Run through configuration
4. Once settings saved then Valerie doesnt start, it then loops back to config
wizard.
5. After a couple times of it looping, it crashes.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I'd expect Valerie to start after configuration completes.

What version of the product are you using?
Revision?

project-valerie_rev1280_mips32el_oe20

Please provide any additional information below.

Hardware: VU+ Duo2
Image: BlackHole 2.1.1

Please let me know if you require any additional information. Right now I think
I need to re-image the system to get it back to a working state :(

Hi Bruce,

well, one problem I see from your attached logfile is the following:

> mUpdate::_setUpdateXmlDict Checking URL: http://val.duckbox.info/update.php
> Update::_setUpdateXmlDict Could not download HTTP Page (<urlopen error [Errno
145] Connection timed out>)

to me it looks like PVMC was not able to open the URL in order to check for
updates.

Is the internet connection configured correctly on this box?

Cheers, Erik

Hi,

Yes the internet connection is working properly, I am able to perform internet
updates from within the BlackHole image itself and update things such as EPG
from internet websites using this image.

Thanks
Bruce

Hi,

Just an update, I repeatedly looped through the installation wizard, and it
eventually worked. Like you said, it must have been having issues connecting to
the internet but was eventually able to establish a connection and do what it
needed to do.

I have not changed anything on my side, so I'm guessing maybe my vu duo2 box
must have put the nic to sleep or something along those lines. it now seems to
be working and would therefor like to close this issue ticket.

PS: Is there a mailing list for this project that I can browse through just
in-case i come accross any noob questions that may already have been answered.

Thanks
Bruce

Hi Bruce,

great to hear it finally worked for you! :-)

Well, actually the best thing to do is to check the Wiki articles. At least
when it comes to syncing issues (for example wrong / no TV-Show found and such)
I tried to explain all the possibilities in order to point PVMC to the correct
data as detailed as possible.

Besides that you also might want to check the issues here at the Google project
page, but most of them are most probably outdated and not related to
"newbie"-questions.

Unfortunately we also don't have something like a mailing list, but since this
project is lacking of active developers anyways a mailing list wouldn't make
sense at all. At least not in the current status.

But: I still use PVMC and since I have a good understanding of the sync process
I could at least try to help on issues related to syncing your Movies /
TV-Shows. Just open a ticket and I will do my very best to assist you... :-)

Happy syncin' & Cheers, Erik
