ASEprite Crashes #388

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Lately, I have been having three issues with ASEprite not working correctly.
I've reinstalled the program multiple times over the past few months but the
problem has just been getting worse. Sometimes ASEprite close the window
without evidence, but today my window was completely covered in sprite junk,
like in the attached file. Also, every time I try to close ASEprite normally, I
get a small pop up every time that says "Error closing ASE. (uncaught
exception)".

Normally when ASEprite closes itself, I am quickly drawing and will
accidentally hit two keys at the same time, usually either "I" plus another
letter key or "G" plus another letter key. The program will then completely
close and I will loose all of my progress. Sometimes I will run the program for
hours before this happens, other times it will happen within minutes of booting
up the program.

Today, ASEprite crashed in an alternate way. I had it locked to the right side
of my screen and I had Google Chrome locked to the left side of my screen. I
closed an empty tab in Google Chrome then the graphics of my ASEprite became
scrambled. On it's own, it's a mild annoyance but it's quite aggravating when
coupled with the other ASEprite crashes. Please, please fix these problems!

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
ASEprite v0.9.5
Windows 8 x64
HP Desktop with AMD A8-6500 APU
8.00 GB RAM

Sorry. I ran a search on my ASEprite folder but no memory dump files have been
generated. I know they should be in the same folder as the .exe itself but I
don't see anything other than "data", "docs", "aseprite.txt", "LICENSE.txt" and
"README.html"

Can you try the beta? http://www.aseprite.org/beta/

Tell me if you experience the same problems.

Interesting that I just go your reply, as I was checking my inbox right after
ASEprite quit on me again. I've downloaded the beta and WHOA that little bit of
GUI makes a big difference! And there's a scroll bar! And you can change the
screen scale without editing the .txt file! Great job, man, really exceeded my
expectations!!! :D

I'll go ahead and give this new ASEprite a spin for a few days and tell if you
if it's a bit more stable. The crashes were happening at random so I really
won't be able to tell if they're fixed unless I use the program for a bit.

First off, I gotta say. This new ASEprite has so many amazing features!
Freehand trace? Timeline editor? All stuff you wouldn't know to how use at
first, but once you get the hang of it you don't know how you'd live without
it! Now, onto the bugs...

ASEprite hasn't crashed at random on me after a day's usage and there's no
"Error closing ASE. (uncaught exception)", but now it crashes when I try to
save my file and click "desktop" from the top pulldown menu. It doesn't seem to
crash when I try clicking any other location or try to reach the desktop by
clicking the up arrow. And when I try to open the program after it's crashed
(no matter how), many of the files in my "Open Recent" menu are forgotten and
the palette editor is scrunched to only show a single column. I can manually
drag it to show the usual 4 columns, but it still resets every time I crash. I
think the 1-column palette editor bug has to do with the 1:1 screen scale.

The right-click cancel functionality isn't working when I use the replace tool.
What I mean by this is that if I'm replacing a color and I don't like the
replaced color, then I can left-click if I still have the right-click held down
and it will undo the replace mid-stroke. This is a function ASEprite v0.9.5 and
even MS Paint has so I assume this is a bug...

Finally, when I make a selection and press the delete key, it removes the
entire layer.

That bug clicking the "Desktop" folder in the pulldown menu is high-priority.
It happened to me one time, and I have another bug report related to that. If
you know how to reproduce it, I would like to send you a special Aseprite
version to test the bug again.

> I think the 1-column palette editor bug has to do with the 1:1 screen scale.

Yeah, it is already fixed for the next release.

> The right-click cancel functionality isn't working when I use the replace tool

Fixed too. Thanks to report it. (Commit:

entire layer.

I will check that. I've to test the delete key and its integration with the new
timeline.

Great! Go ahead and send me that version via email. On another note, I haven't
been doing a lot of animation in ASEprite lately, but since I just got an
International Karate-esque commission I'll be testing that too...I'll go ahead
and open up a new bug report if anything odd pops up!

The Delete key problem is fixed. The click-on desktop crash is duplicated with
issue 351, please follow that issue. Thanks!
