The README file links to the LICENSE and CONTRIBUTING files using the full GitHub URL pointing at the gh-pages branch. That branch no longer exists and so these links produce a 404 not found error.
I suggest to use relative URLs to point at the files that are right next to the README. (I will open a PR for this)
