gbc-gs-v4.0.bin not booting #40

Hi! Thanks so much for this repo. I recently discovered my old 3.0 Gameshark - when I booted it up I was greeted with a super corrupt set of codes. I only barely remember this being the case but think something went wrong at some point when using the software back in the day to update. It was on 4.0+ software having been updated via the old software but no longer practically functional. Gibberish.

I was able to flash gbc-gs-crystal-v4.2 with my GBxCart RW. When it loaded it was wonderful to see a non-corrupted menu with codes that were functional and could be browsed through. Back from the dead. You're a hero!

When I realized this only had codes for like 5 games I then went to flash gbc-gs-v4.0.bin - with this one the GameShark logo boots fine, but then goes to a white screen. I then flashed the 4.2 again and it booted normally. Is there any chance there's something wrong with the 4.0 image? Or any other way to flash an older version that might have more codes built in?

Hello, sorry for the delay. I just downloaded and wrote that rom to my GBC Gameshark using the Sanni Cartridge Reader. It boots fine and I can see 283 games in the code list. Perhaps there is an issue with the GBxCart RW?

no worries at all on the delay- i do appreciate you checking on that. i’m pretty sure i tested dumping it back after flashing and it was byte for byte the same bin which would lead me to think the flashing part went fine. but i’ll try again- i’ve since bought another (slightly different and i think later model) GameShark which has a fuller code list which i plan to dump and then also try with that bin - it could very well be my specific old GS that is the issue.

I can't think of any hardware specific design issues that would prevent it from booting on your GS after another firmware successfully booted other than an intermittent connection between the Gameboy and the GS or the GS and the cartridge. But I can confirm that I've just today flashed that specific 4.0 rom to a GBC Gameshark and it booted/ran fine.
