5V pin connected to? #1

I am trying to use the 5V pin, I assumed it would be connected to the USB VBUS but instead I am measuring 4.2-4.5V. Is it connected to something else? How do I get the USB input voltage?

It seems that the 5V input from USB goes through this diode, dropping 0.7V. My guess is the diode can be safely removed and replaced with a direct connection to get the 5V passed on as is.
