Merge 2.7 into 2.8 #2836

This PR is mostly aimed to merge https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/commit/79226fa7029aaaa878e62a63b865d0ddae0bf229 upwards. The question, if we also want to have the other change? I guess yes?

2784 is already fixed in 2.8 by https://github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/commit/334d81c5277982b5b73043d5cde7f119635de629

Ok. The other change is also already in 2.8. Weird that Github shows these changes.
