docs: punctuation and short backport on o-codes from master #2854

Please accept the branch on the master branch prior to merging master with 2.9 to avoid conflicts - the changes in the punctuation are not always easy to spot.

Can you create a PR for the merge, if you want to do it backwards? (possibly as a cherry-pick?)
