Autocompletition in 2.4.3.1 kills #574

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. try to type new variable
2. press 'space' to accept new variable
3. see that whatever was in the list accepted instead of the variable

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
to be able to accept new variables with 'space' or some custom key
when I type variable 'a' I don't want to input 'abs' from the list, I want 
variable 'a'

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Win7 x64
