Content Based Image Retreival - Feature Extraction

I am doing my final year project on CBIR. I am now moving into the feature 
extraction step. I have thought about aggregating color and texture features. 
Can anyone give the best possible methods for it?

If possible please give me the short codings for it.

Also wanted to know how to integrate a C file into Matlab.
