Nice to see you keep up the blender tips Grinning face Two remarks.
1) Apart from the Decimate operation there's also a Decimate modifier. The latter is non-destructive, so if you change your mind later you can still remove it to get back the original mode, or change the decimation factor.
2) The scene statistics work fine for a simple scene, but can be a bit misleading when you're working with instances of the same mesh. As the numbers show the amount of unique geometry in the scene, not the amount being drawn in total
