Document use of backup data #52

If we invite competitors to use back up devices we will need to have the means to download the data. Software, cables etc.

Which units do we trust? Should we tell competitors which we accept / can handle?

Based on my own assessments and those of the tech crew at GPS Team Challenge, I'd say we only accept the following:

The GW-52 and GW-60 both require the GW52Util and GW60Util to be installed but they work fine on Windows 11. No custom drivers need to be installed for Windows to talk to the GW-52 or GW-60 (unlike the GT-11).

Pretty much all of the popular sports watches are NOT suitable for a speed competition, including (but not limited to) the following:

Note: GPS Speedsurfing has approved the COROS APEX Pro and VERTIX watches but that was a commercial decision, not based on the data quality. The APEX Pro and VERTIX have serious data reliability issues that make them unsuitable for serious competitions.

I've put a GW60 cable in the "techie" box. Just need the GW60Util installed on the laptop.

I suggest we keep it simple "GT31, GW60, Wireless Motion"

The GW-52 is essentially a GW-60 in a box, slightly smaller than the GT-31 but larger than the GW-60. The hardware and software is basically identical to the GW-60 and the process for handling the tracks would be the same. I will install the GW52Util and GW60Util on the event laptop and document the process for getting data through the results pipeline.

Now that I've used the Motion LCD for a few days, I'm also happy this would be a great backup device. Most speedsailors own the LCD one (rather than a Mini) and they are in many ways easier to use than the Mini. For example, you can see what is happending from a WiFi perspective. It tells you what WiFi it is trying to connect to / connected to and shows the Motion ID for once connected. If we ensure that people have the weymouth firmware prior to arrival, we always set up their personal Motion as a second device if (and only if) we need to resort to the backup. That will allow us to download the data using the regular process which is obviously handy.

Further thought: If we know their Motion ID prior to arrival, we can actually have their backup device pre-registered, thus making it super-easy to download data from their own device.
