I have sufficient bits to make a windspeed station. My thinking is to use the Airmar PB200, of which I have two, an old mast with a mounting, a simple datalogger with an SD card and a big chunk of lithium to power it all. Everything electronic housed in a peli case and the mast/sensor and case connected by cable. The mast could be affixed to the ladder on the marina headland by the safety crew each morning and collected after the course closes. I expect to record a NMEA sentence every second, to give windspeed, direction, temperature, lat, long, & satellite time as a CSV file.
The data can then be used to show average windspeed/direction during each run. or more simply a graph of wind speed and direction with time for each course open period.
Positioning the sensor will be critical with respect to how valid the wind data is.
