Crown Overlay disabling request in main service #31

Open antiero opened 4 years ago

antiero commented 4 years ago

I've sent this to support and have complained on the forums, but posting here in the hope that someone who's a developer can escalate this...

Please please PLEASE can you add an option to disable to overlays which appear when you use the Crown on the Craft keyboard?

These overlays should be optional.. they get in the way of Creative Apps, are distracting, and totally unnecessary and completely remove the keyboard's 'Pro' feel. There's a number of online forums of people complaining about this, including:

https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360034833613-Logitech-Craft-option-to-disable-overlays-

https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360032761973-Logitech-Craft-Software-Annoyance

And many more!

@moonstruckcreatives here is my exact configuration, I hope that helps:

#SingleInstance, force
#NoEnv ; Recommended for performance and compatibility with future AutoHotkey releases.
#persistent
#KeyHistory 0
;#NoTrayIcon

; make Logitech craft windows transparent
SetTimer, LogiOverlay, -5000

LogiOverlay(){
If WinExist("ahk_EXE LogiOverlay.exe") {
  WinClose, ahk_EXE LogiOverlay.exe
  ; WinSet, Transparent, 20, ahk_EXE LogiOverlay.exe
  }
}

@Arty2 OMG man you the man, it works.. thanks a bunch

Lenovo Yoga C940, the autohotkey script did not work. Edit: the autohotkey script seems to work after having made a new Autohotkey script for it, instead of putting it in the same file as my other scripts. https://github.com/Logitech/logi_craft_sdk/issues/31#issuecomment-1007826124

And save the human's program crashes, doesn't seem to start at startup even though I pasted the exe.file in the Windows Startup folder too... https://github.com/Logitech/logi_craft_sdk/issues/31#issuecomment-554611296

It makes me sad that Logitech does not add any transparency options for the crown dial overlay, or maybe a custom timer, like I wouldn't mind the overlay being there for 2 seconds or whatever (if it were semi-transparent), the issue is that it stays there in the middle of the screen as long as you keep rotating the knob...

MedBooster commented 2 years ago

Addition: the autohotkey script worked when I created a separate script for it. (I guess I had too many other scripts running in my first script)

Only thought; context dependent functions, i.e. tapping the crown to change the dial function, seems not to work when the overlay is not enabled. SO maybe there's a way to make it so that the overlays appears for max 1-2 seconds? That way if you do horizontal scrolling for example the overlay is only there for 1-2- secs as opposed to the whole duration of the scrolling...

I asked YouTube reviewers about this issue. Maybe influencers can advocate for us?

Probably they also don't care or were paid by Logitech to do reviews... I also saw many reviews about this keyboard...

but discovered this problem today when my Craft Keyboard arrived today... May 2022... so 3 years Logitech can't solve this problem.

Also on Logitech chat was told today that this is:

"I am sorry to say these the Overlays can't be disabled, the product is designed in such a way, its a feature of that product."

Logitech is a joke !!!

davidmonten commented 2 years ago

I realised it should be there, somewhere, for sure a little less intrusive, but when you have different functions for the same application you really wanna know what the wheel is going to do when you turn it, what's the next function if you switch and how long is the list of functions.

I find it very intrusive, but I think it would be worse if there was none.

The kBo interacts with many apps and user can set custom profiles, so it's hard to remember all the functions. Having a live reminder is useful.

At the same time some user might not do such a broad use of it, so it could make sense for them to disable the overlay.

I think the software is pretty good.

One piece of advice: if you are using some virtual kBo to remap some keys (on Mac it could be Karabiner Elements and similar) it won't make your kBo recognisabke by the sw. Just disable it, I went nuts for 2 days (I'm dumb).

My suggestion is to buy it used, because you can find it these days and save quite a bit of money (I found it for 75% less than retail price).

I will ask you straight... are you working for Logitech or being paid in any way by them ?

I have read your answer 3 times and tried understand it... but every time I came to a conclusion that... your answer makes no sense.

First at all... this is not a good software. Good software would give me a choice. I could decide do I need Crown Wheel Overlay turned on or not!

When I'm using Photoshop and touching Crown Wheel every a few seconds this Overlay is covering my working area !!! How this can be good for me ?

When I'm using single app at the time... why should I be constantly informed what function have Crown Wheel ? I don't need that information because I'm using the same app for 2-3 hours.

But this overlay is annoying and is disrupting my work!!!

I'm using Logitech products since late 90s. Always preferred to buy their expensive products and then use them for years... the benefit was great ergonomy and comfort of use.

Today I'm using their top products... MX Master 3 mouse and Craft Keyboard... but probably it will be the last time when I purchased Logitech.

Now is the best... you are suggesting me to buy used Logitech Craft keyboard... how this should solve overlay problem ??????

Will used keyboard have different software ??? Which will not display that overlay each time I will touch Crown Wheel ?

;-)

I don't mind to but used RAM, NVMe or other internal parts of the computer... but will not buy used mouse or keyboard.

I don't mind to pay £200 for a keyboard... but for that price I would expect PERFECT and FINISHED product.

Logitech Craft Keyboard... is not perfect or finished product because of bad software which is destroying positive experience with the hardware device itself.

davidmonten commented 2 years ago

Thanks, maybe I should apply to work for them :)

Besides, I love the way you lose your sh*t, it reminds me of me sometimes xD

Now the point is, how should I answer you? Either I react to start a flame, or I ignore your tone. Or I troll you :D The most annoying part is that you expect that some random user on the internet is going to solve your specific problem. How naive is that?

I gave you my point of view and my experience with conflicting software, you can take it and do what you want or just forget it. I'll tell you something more: they have released an update for LogiOptions a few days ago and, despite your disappointment, that was not fixed.

I would love to answer each point you raised, but you don't deserve it. Good luck with your kBo bro, and keep an eye on your blood pressure.

p.s. I guess I managed to do all three things at once :P

Ohhh... no... now you are a doctor ;-)

Thanks for taking care about my blood pressure ;-)

I didn't expect that some rude random user like you will solve my problem with bad Logitech software ;-)

I would expect that Logitech should do this as I paid for their product.

I sent my opinion here to show that the same problem that many... many people were complaining in 2019 still exist in June 2022.

You didn't had to answer to my first post if you didn't had anything to say.

EOT... ;-)

MedBooster commented 2 years ago

The overlay could have been tolerable IF it would only be there for 1-2 seconds, the problem is that it stays there as long as you keep rotating the knob/dial!

yep... doesn't seem like they've done their due diligence, even though I bought the keyboard long after release (one would expect things to be fixed by then?)

E.g. the ratchet-smooth conversion noise , that often occurs, even if you set all your modes to ratchet and it doesn't even need to change its mode! It's so annoying at times...

MedBooster commented 2 years ago

Hahaha this is rediculous. Well i it is a "feature" and can't be "disabled" , how does the autohotkey script work? Do they not communicate with their customers at all...

MedBooster commented 1 year ago

The autohotkey script sadly doesn't seem to be working anymore... any new solutions?

hi guys! I found a workaround in macOS:

  1. Just delete
    /Applications/Logi Options.app/Contents/Support/LogiMgrDaemon.app/Contents/Frameworks/Renderer.framework/Versions/A/Resources/CustomWindow.nib
  2. and restart Logi Options Daemon.
Tuinpad commented 1 year ago

For me the autohotkey works great, maybe because I'm still on Windows 10.
