exe file deletes itself. #23

Extracting the files, I run the program which then proceeds to delete itself
and tells me I may not have permissions to run the file even when I run as
administrator.

If you're getting an error saying you can't run it, then it's not even starting
up and getting a chance to delete itself. Even if it was, an exe on Windows
can't delete itself without jumping through some particular hoops. Something
else on your computer is preventing the file from running at all, or perhaps
ending the process immediately after it starts, then deleting it.

How are you extracting the files, and where are you extracting them to? You
might want to try extracting them to a different location.

I can't imagine what would actually delete a file other than an overzealous
virus scanner, but I've not heard any other reports of any false positives.

I think I might need to know exactly what the error you receive says and looks
like in order to give you any further advice.

Just tried extracting via 7zip and to a different location which seems to
solved the problem. Beforehand I was just extracting to the downloads folder
presumably with windows extracting software which prompted the error:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the
appropriate permissions to access the item."
At which point the file is deleted.

the issue though is resolved, many thanks.
