Dear mods and devs

my warlock pet (Felguard) unlearns all his abilities if i manually dismiss him with "/run PetAbandon()". Really sad as it's important in dungeons and raids to keep your pet alive and this way he keeps his buffs when resummoned. Thank you for the work you put into this.

That macro is for renaming the pet by abandoning it, not dismissing. Use /script PetDismiss()

PetAbandon was never intended to make the pet merely despawn instead of being abandoned altogether. That is a glitch. They clearly tried to fix the glitch, but were not entirely successful.
