Slings: New Use For Pebbles / Nomad Age weapon? #782

Over time, pebbles seem to build up in chests and you don't really have a reason to pick them up anymore. We need another use for them. How about ammo for slings?

It could also scale with ages, starting off with less durability than a bow, and increasing to more durability than a bow, maybe?

Crafting recipe suggestion:

Nomadic Age: Braided/Woven Sling (somewhere in the ballpark of wooden weapons for durability, maybe less?):

(blank) twine twine twine (blank) twine (blank) twine (blank)

Alternatively replacing the top right twine with a new item, Twine Weave, crafted by combining 4 (or 2-3?) twine. (If that were the case it might be easier to arrange the crafting recipe like a U or right angle on a corner with the centre piece being the Weave. Examples:

(blank) twine weave twine (blank) twine (blank) twine (blank)

twine twine weave (blank)(blank) twine (blank)(blank) twine

twine weave twine twine (blank) twine twine (blank) twine

(maybe take out the top corners in this one?) If you wanted to add another step, perhaps three twine could be combined to form Twine Braid, and "twine" in the recipe could be replaced with the braided pieces.

Agricultural Age: Leather Sling (for balance reasons this would have to be more durable than a standard bow, because leather is considerably more labour intensive than sticks and string). We'd have to come up with some reason (other than easy to come by ammo) to use this over a bow I think...

Recipes could be the same except replace weave with either a full piece of leather for simplicity, or leather weave... twine in the above recipes would be replaced by leather cord.

(If Twine Weave is created, some balancing may need to be done with Pam's "Woven Cotton", and maybe it should be a suitable substitution ingredient as well)

Pebbles can be rapid-fire thrown like snowballs, except they actually do a small amount of damage. Maybe slings could also be a thing and do slightly more damage.

I've also been planning on adding spears basically forever and just haven't had time to make it a priority. Maybe they can use pebbles as heads. Maybe we could add a pebble recipe for arrows too...?

ooh that could be good. Would it just be a substitute for flint or would there be some pros/cons to one over the other?

I figured the sling might also be a good early ranged weapon if, for example, you don't have chicken feathers.
