Telescope supports picker for viewing open buffers - builtin.buffers. The existing configuration is set up to use this to make it easier to navigate between recently opened files, but they seem to be sorted randomly.
Solution
They should instead be sorted so that the most recent buffer is at the bottom of the list, so that the buffer finder can be opened, and enter can immediately open the latest file for quick file navigation.

Eventually, I may look into other extensions specifically for navigating between specific files, such as Harpoon, but this is the current flow I am used to.
