How to organise access to preserved databases (siard or other)?

Asbjoedt commented 2 years ago

We are examing the potential of the tool Database Preservation Toolkit as a method for reusing SIARD databases. The tool is free to use.

We (National Archives of Estonia) are currently using the Database Preservation Toolkit (more specifically DBPTK Enterprise) as the software to provide access to preserved SIARD databases. For now, it is only available internally (to our archivists) but after addressing some data protection considerations we hope to use it also for public access.

There are still some issues to improve in DBPTK but we are collaborating with the Danish National Archives and the developers of DBPTK (KEEP Solutions) to discuss open issues and guide the further roadmap.

Another decent alternative in terms of software seems to be Spectral Core (https://www.spectralcore.com/).

The DILCIS Board subgroup for SIARD (https://dilcis.eu/content-types/siard) is the body where also issues about access to SIARD snapshots can be discussed, please note the mailing list and two case studies on the page!
