fix .gitignore custom settings

.gitignore has serious issues in its custom settings block

• use of explicit pathnames instead of filename patterns (OK for avoiding committing caches and credentials, but otherwise not a good design)
• use of wildcards
• unnecessary exceptions
• full path to pycache instead of filename pattern
